Tempo Is ‘Back To The Game’ With New Promising Album [VIDEO]
Tempo began his career participating in talent shows. It wasn’t until 1998, however, that he dropped his first big reggaeton hit “Bailando Quiero Verlas” with the help of DJ Playero. Shortly after, he released his debut album Game Over, becoming one of the first artists signed by Buddha’s Productions. The Puerto Rican singer was one of the first to make tiraes in Spanish, having musical battles with Lito & Polaco Master Joe & OG Black, Nicky Jam, Daddy Yankee, among others.
On October 10, 2002, Tempo was arrested for drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons, and was also suspected of murder, kidnapping and robbery. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, after which were reduced to 11 years. In 2006, a movement called Free Tempo was created, which inspired many artists to do a tribute album while he was in jail. Free Tempo was released in June 2009 and was nominated for a Grammy, with performances by artists such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderón, Arcángel, Héctor el Father, Yomo, Fat Joe, Barrington Levy, and duos Wisin & Yandel, Jowell & Randy, J King & Maximan, Getto & Gastam.
After 11 years in prison, Tempo was released in October 2013 and dropped a mixtape called Free Music, with contributions from Daddy Yankee, Ñengo Flow, J Álvarez, Farruko, Arcángel, Jory, De La Ghetto, Wisin, and more.
His first concert after being released was on May 17, 2014 in the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, with participations of artists such as Daddy Yankee, Wisin, J Alvarez, Fat Joe. He also maintained an artistic war with the rapper Cosculluela but in January 2016 the rappers fixed their differences.
