Just in February we launched my single and now it’s no. 1 and I’m nominated for Premios Juventud. This happened in three month and I’m very, very happy,” he added.
We think to have an idea why the awards show, airing July 16 via Univision, have their eyes set on Rolf. Find out more of this charismatic artist in our Q&A below!
Pulso POP: Who is Rolf Sanchez, the artist?
Rolf Sanchez: I sing salsa, I love to sing latin music. When I was 18 years old, I was on the ‘X Factor Holland.’ I was in third place, but I was the only one who got a Sony contract. Now, I’m conquering the world with my salsa.
PP: Tell us about your single ‘Por si no te vuelvo a ver.’
RS: It’s a romantic song that I wrote it in October of 2014. Everyone can relate to the song , it’s about giving it your all at the moment because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow.
PP: Being Dominican, why salsa and not bachata or merengue?
RS: Latin music is in my blood, I sang bachata and merengue, and I never thought of singing salsa. But I was invited once to cover “Yo No Se Mañana” salsa version, when I performed and I felt like I saw the light. At that moment, I sang more salsa songs and that’s when I knew I wanted to do salsa.
PP: By any chance did you sing salsa on the ‘X Factor’?
RS: I sang one song, but it wasn’t that good because it was done by a Dutch composer… it didn’t have sazon or salsa, nothing!

PP: Who would you like to collaborate with?
RS: I’d love to work with Nicky Jam because I know that he writes his own songs. He’s not only a rapper but he knows how to sing. And of course, my admiration Marc Anthony.
PP: What are the advantages of being a salsa singer in Holland?
RS: I’m probably one of the few artists who sings in Spanish and the only one who sings salsa. When there’s a latin party, they always look for me. I don’t want to leave Holland, but if I had the opportunity to go to Miami, I’d do it… the entire Latin community is here!
