From Admiring Selena To Playing SXSW, Meet Latinx Emerging Artist Shiela [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]
Shiela Gonzalez discovered her passion for music at a very young age thanks to her mom, who would blast everything from Selena Quintanilla’s timeless cumbia’s to Sade’s soulful pop.
It’s her lifelong musical inspirations that sparked her unique sound of modern folk, chill R&B, and refreshing Tejano tunes. Now, dipping her toes in the music scene, Shiela—as she’s known in the music biz—is ready to conquer the world outside of her native Texas.
Born to a Mexican mother and Nicaraguan father, Shiela kicked off 2019 with the release of “What You Know,” a heartfelt track she penned last year the day after her ex broke up with her. Despite her heartbreak, this track has been one of Shiela’s most successful songs, getting great traction on Spotify. “It makes me feel happy that people can relate,” she said to PulsoPOP of the smooth, sultry single.
On Valentine’s Day, the Hispanic-American artist showcased a more folk-inspired sound, surprising her fans with “Desayuno,” a Spanish-language single that highlights two of her favorite things: tacos and cats. “I plan to release more singles this year just to get my name out there,” she said.
As part of her game plan, Shiela will be performing on March 14 at the upcoming SXSW Conference & Festival in Texas, where she will be singing her original songs and a couple of covers joined by a live band and her colleague Landon.
