What started off as a simple hobby between five sisters, has blossomed into a full-time passion. Behold, Anahi, Adela, Berna, Nadia and Lesli, a group of Mexican-American girls from Texas who were once called “Las Hermanas Rodriguez” but are now known in the spotlight as “Las Fenix.”

Nadia, who plays the bass in the band, explained their change of heart after their father suggested “Las Fenix.” “Every 500 years, the Phoenix bird turns into ashes and relives again due to its singing voice,” she told PulsoPOP. “We like to think it was a name given to us by God.”
The girls are currently making the rounds with 10 tracks in their latest album called “Retro Live,” nine of which are covers, including Son By Four’s “A Puro Dolor” and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs “Padre Nuestro.” According to Lesli, the bajo quinto player, their first single “Basta” is the only original track on the album.

For the girls, who are known for their authentic and vibrant norteño and cumbia sounds, “Retro Live” is their key to a broader audience. “We wanted to explore a little bit more with our music,” Nadia said about their new pop/rock sounds. “We worked really hard on the album and it’s something we’re very proud of.”
