Who Drops An Album With Only The Sound Of Guitars? Jorge Drexler. That’s Who.
It’s been three years way too long, but Jorge Drexler’s has finally dropped new music.
Following his 2014 production, Bailar en la Cueva, the Uruguayan singer presents Salvavidas de Hielo, home to 11 fresh tracks, including collaborations with empowering Latina women such as Natalie Lafourcade and Julieta Venegas.

Recorded in Mexico and Spain, this production was produced solely with Drexler’s enchanting voice and guitars. It’s brilliant.
Salvadidas de Hielo is a collection of experimental and rhythmic melodies with a range of drums, percussion, loops and synthesizers that have been created by guitars and their different parts, including the strings, the wooden bodies, the banjo’s outer skin and the metal of a dobro guitar. These multiple elements created an incredible “band” for this new project.
If you need any more indication as to how awesome this album is, here’s a pleasant elaboration from Spanish Author, Antonio Escohotado:
Drexler is the polar opposite of other singer-songwriters. He can use intuition like the innocent Rousseauian savage, but he knows a great deal about music (just as he knows all about otorhinolaryngology and about being a Jewish Moor raised among Christians), so much, in fact, that he seems to play by heart, without a single mistake, when actually his mastery of counterpoint and fugue is such that it can be a real challenge for anyone who sings with him. Case in point, he can distinguish a white note from a distant black note, and if he doesn’t write symphonies, it’s only because he doesn’t want to (for now). He has the voice of a tenor but comes close to the warmth of a baritone, and while Latin rhythms predominate in his wide-ranging musical pursuits, he’s also partial to a rock beat or a country waltz if the opportunity arises.
Following the release of his album on Sept. 22nd, Drexler will embark a Latin American tour making pit stops in countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. He’s also planning on touring the U.S.
