Gente de Zona almost gave up on ‘Bailando’ | VIDEO
Gente de Zona almost gave up on the opportunity to collaborate with Enrique Iglesias because of one simple misunderstanding.
Little did the Cuban duo know that their song “Bailando” would be a huge success and that they would be singing it at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music.
Cuba and Spain were present at the Latin Billboards on Thursday night, making everyone at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. dance to the sounds of flamenco and reggaeton.
“What brings us here, first and foremost, is the song we did with Descemer Bueno and Enrique Iglesias,” founder and singer Alexander Delgado told VOXXI backstage.
“It’s had great success that we are even invited to the awards,” he added.
Gente de Zona let us in on the scoop of how the seductive and engaging record with Iglesias came to life.
“The song was written with Descemer Bueno and Enrique, there were many ideas but nothing concrete,” member Randy Malcom said. “Descemer proposed the song and we recorded it in Cuba.”
Enrique Iglesias put his two cents once the song was finished.
“He [Enrique] liked it a lot and he called Alexander when we were on tour in the US,” Malcom said.
Delgado, however, shared an amusing anecdote that almost led to the collaboration never happening.
The Gente de Zona singer hung up the phone on Enrique when he called to talk about the song. True story.
“I didn’t know which Enrique it was, I never imagined it would be him,” Delgado laughed. “I thought it was a neighbor I once had issues with, but it was Iglesias and the collaboration was born that way.”
The duo from Havana is known for fusing traditional Cuban music with urban sounds, resulting in a genre known as “Cubaton” (Cuban reggaeton).
Following a successful performance in the 2014 Billboard Latin Music stage, Alexander and Randy, will continue their up and coming career.
