Meet El Micha: The Cuban Basketball Player Who’s Making Way In The Music Biz [VIDEO]
From the humble streets of Cuba to conquering stages internationally, El Micha is making way in the Latin music industry as Cubaton’s latest promising artist.
Born Michael Sierra Miranda in Havana, the former basketball player discovered his passion for music as a fan of hip-hop music. “I was always listening to hip-hop music and I would improvise with beats,” he told PulsoPOP. “Little by little I began making music until I had concerts in Cuba and internationally.”

El Micha is currently one of the biggest artists in the Cubaton movement—reggaeton influenced by the Cuban culture. But compared to his colleagues like Jacob Forever and Gente de Zona, El Micha’s sound is captivating and distinct thanks to his deep, raspy voice. “I put a lot of flavor in my reggaeton and make it very original,” he said. “I’m an exporter of my hood [in Cuba] and everything I sing is about things that I’ve lived or seen. The first thing I make sure about is that people will enjoy the song.”
Currently signed to Cosculluela’s Rottweilas Record Label, El Micha kicked off 2018 with back-to-back hits including collaborations with Enrique Iglesias and Farruko. His latest baby is an enjoyable salsa called Suma y Resta with the iconic Puerto Rican singer Gilberto Santarosa.
“The song is very interesting. A lot of people are liking it,” he said. “I’m thankful that Sr. Gilberto believed in me and accepted my proposal. I’m proud of that, he’s a beautiful person,” he added.
