We caught up with the Spanish crooner who told us all about his new production and passion for romantic baladas.
PulsoPOP: Where was your passion for music born?
David Eraya: Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always like music. Always. Growing up, I heard various Spanish artists. I started writing my songs as a hobby, but then I began to study music.
PP: Why name your first single and album, Otro Destino?
DE: The song had the title even before the lyrics. I just knew I wanted the song to be called that way and then I worked on the lyrics. Otro Destino had a lot to do with my situation at the moment. I wanted to grow as an artist, move to New York, and find an opportunity in music. It just had to do a lot with everything that was happening in my life, it just made perfect sense.
PP: In your album, you have a cover of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’. Why this song out of every song?
DE: I admire 80’s music a lot. I like so many song, but I couldn’t include them all. So I chose that one because I really like it.
PP: Nowadays, Latin urban music is taking over the radio and music charts, why opt for Latin Pop?
DE: I wanted to be faithful to what I felt. I’ve worked on so many other projects, but I wanted to dedicate myself to what I wanted to do and not to what people wanted to hear. This is my own musical project. I know I’m taking a risk, but it’s who I am as an artist.

PP: The music world must be hard for an emerging artist. What’s the best piece of advice you have gotten about this career?
DE: “To be patient.” That’s the best advice I’ve gotten. The music world still suffers a lot. It’s hard with a lot of artists out there, who are going for the same dream that I have.
