Chiquis Rivera makes strong statement with debut album ‘Ahora’
Finally, after a long time in the making, Chiquis Rivera has launched her debut album called “Ahora” (“Now”). The title is a simple yet strong way of making a statement: Live in the moment. And that’s exactly what the oldest daughter of the late Jenni Rivera is doing with her first-ever studio album.
In “Ahora” —already available for purchase— there is a whole new world to discover about the life Chiquis.
“With this album I kind of want to give a little bit of everything, a little bit of English, a little bit of pop. ” said Chiquis to Billboard. “I’m still trying to find my sound. But the more that I try new things, the more I realize how much I love banda. It’s more rugged. It’s actually very difficult to sing banda — you have to compete with the instruments, these huge arrangements.”
The 29-year-old Mexican-American is well aware that she’s entered a male-dominated genre in the world of banda, but she’s proud of her achievement and stands strong by her music, especially the 14 tracks (in English and Spanish) found in “Ahora.”
“It’s not even about proving to the world that I can do it; it’s about proving to myself that I can do it and feel content with saying, ‘At least I tried it and now I can move on to the next thing,” she added.
