Buika Is Fearless In New Album ‘Vivir Sin Miedo’
After 15 years in the biz and nearly 10 album releases, Buika —born Maria Concepción Balboa Buika— is fearless and shows her new side in her new studio production “Vivir Sin Miedo.”

In the album, which launched on October 16th via Warner Music Latina, the Spanish songstress of African descent makes a striking departure from the Spanish raga flamenco, Latin jazz and world music for which she is known, into something best described as global pop. For the first time, she sings primarily in English than in Spanish (and often mixes the two).
The first single off the album, which the 43-year-old singer co-wrote, is an enthralling tune called “Carry Your Own Weight” featuring Jason Mraz —one of her many artist fans.
While the single reflects Buika’s growing connection to the U.S., where she has been based since 2011, she remains grounded in the music of her native Spain, collaborating on the song “Waves” with the great flamenco singer Potito.
“Vivir Sin Miedo,” already available for purchase, follows Buika’s acclaimed 2013 release “La Noche Más Larga,” which won a Latin Grammy and received a Grammy nomination in the Best Latin Jazz Album category.
