All the Artists to Receive Special Awards at 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards

The 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards is sneaking up on us, and in true fashion, Telemundo and Billboard unveiled a select group of artists who will be honored with the 2022 special awards, including the coveted Icon Award and Hall of Fame Award.

All of this year’s special awards will be bestowed during the most prestigious night in Latin music, which will take place on Thursday, September 29th, and will broadcast live on Telemundo at 7pm/6c from the Watsco Center in Miami, Florida. The Billboard Latin Music Awards—which coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, returning to Miami Sept. 26 – Oct. 1, 2022—will also be simulcast on the Hispanic entertainment cable channel, Universo, Peacock, the Telemundo App, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

HALL OF FAME AWARD

2022 Recipient: Nicky Jam

Recognized For: The Billboard Hall of Fame Award is reserved for artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages. Nicky will be honored for his impressive artistic career that goes beyond musical performance and considers the influence he has cemented as an artist on a global level. With over three decades in the industry, the Puerto Rican artist, actor, and entrepreneur is known as one of the pioneers of the Reggaetón movement. He’s known for classic urban bops such as “Travesura” and “Hasta El Amanecer.”

SPIRIT OF HOPE

2022 Recipient: Christina Aguilera

Recognized For: Created in honor of the late Tejano star Selena Quintanilla, the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award is given to an artist in recognition of their extraordinary philanthropic and humanitarian contributions beyond their musical work. Aguilera, who has lifted her voice to help end the cycle of domestic violence abuse, is a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, and traveled the globe to help feed children in poverty-stricken areas, will also perform at the awards show.

2022 Recipient: Raphael

Recognized For: In addition to performing his timeless hits at the awards show, Raphael will be recognized for his exceptional professional career and his artistic and personal contributions that have influenced the development of Latin music around the world. With an impressive musical career that spans over 60 years, Raphael has garnered worldwide recognition as an extraordinary singer with a privileged voice, a pioneer of Spanish-language romantic ballads, and has sold over 70 million records.

2022 Recipient: Chayanne

Recognized For: The Billboard Icon Award is given to an artist who has carved out a career that has not only remained relevant through time but has also made them the most distinguished artist in their genre, celebrated globally for achieving both musical and commercial success. With a prolific career that spans over 40 years, Chayanne is a Puerto Rican-based romantic ballad and Spanish-language pop world icon. The renowned artist will also perform during the prestigious awards show

Previous titleholders: The first artist to receive this honor was the Mexican rock band Maná in 2021.
