Cali & El Dandee Talk ‘Despiertate’ with Mau & Ricky, Guaynaa [INTERVIEW]
Latin pop star and brotherly duo, Cali y El Dandee, is releasing their new single “Despiértate” in collaboration with Mau y Ricky – also a top Latin brotherly duo – and Puerto Rican sensation Guaynaa.
Fans worldwide will go wild seeing all their favorite urban music singers in one place. Audiences will have no choice but to surrender to this song and get up and dance. Colombia, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico are all represented in this catchy song spreading positivity in times of trouble.
“For a long time now, we wanted a song with Mau and Ricky, two brothers whom we admire a lot and Guaynaa, who has become a benchmark in the new generation’s urban music scene. It’s a fun song, which you are definitely going to enjoy a lot, and in addition to having lighthearted lyrics, tells all those who are in toxic relationships to wake up and look for a person who actually treats them how they deserve,” said Cali y El Dandee.
“Despiértate” was created out of the mutual admiration between these heavy hitters. For Cali y El Dandee, it seemed like a natural choice to have Mau y Ricky, who inhabit the same brother-duo planet as they do, and Guaynaa, whose reggaeton and chanteo has commanded the industry’s attention join in on the track. The song was written by Cali y El Dandee, Mau y Ricky, Guaynaa, Andrés Torres and Jon Leone. This addictive track is imprinted with Cali y El Dandee’s DNA and reminds us to wake up and leave negative relationships, perfectly complemented and enhanced by the musical Latin talents of Mau y Ricky and Guaynaa.
The song speaks of a toxic and blinding love – and is a reminder to choose self-love always. We can see this translated visually into blindfolds and get to follow the three acts across Miami in a fun-loving video. The video was shot by 2 Wolves/Sota and directed by Kath D.
Mau y Ricky also gushed about the collaboration, saying, “There is nothing like sharing the same vocation and passion for something with your brother. We are very lucky, and Cali y El Dandee understand this. Being able to capture that in a song is very nice… and, also with Guaynaa, who has become one of the greatest friends that the music industry could possibly have given us. We love this song and we have been going crazy waiting for it to come out!”
“It was a pleasure to jump on the track with Mau and Ricky and Cali and Dandee, we complimented each other’s sound well and we hope fans enjoy it,” said Guaynaa.
