Cali & El Dandee Drop New Album ‘Colegio,’ Share Craziest School Anecdotes [VIDEO]
Colombian duo, Cali y El Dandee, some of the most important trendsetters of Latin urban pop this last decade, release their long-awaited new album, “Colegio.”
“Locura,” a collaboration with Colombian star Sebastian Yatra, is one of the highly anticipated tracks from this release. This song is one of the most emblematic of the album, carrying us to the past as it evokes deep feelings of childhood nostalgia as it incorporates the chorus tracks of “La Locura Automática” by the group La Secta, one of Cali y El Dandee’s favorite songs from their school years. The Colombian duo, taking inspiration from that treasured music, are able to bring the song to the present, with a modern beat, using their unmatched musical expertise.
“With the album ‘Colegio’ what we wanted was to evoke through the music all that we felt when we were young,” noted Cali y El Dandee. “Songs like ‘La Locura Automática’ were ideal tunes to dedicate, so with ‘Locura,’ the intention was to bring back those same feelings to what would be a modern and faithful interpretation of the style of the three of us and demonstrate that reggaeton can also be a sound of love.”
Of the collar, Yatra added: “They invited me to be a part of this song that we dreamt of from the beginning. “Locura” counts on all of the elements to connect with the people but also relates to what we are currently living through. Although it is a new song, people recognize it and immediately singalong to its chorus, giving us back the nostalgia of yesteryear and connecting the realities of today.”
“Locura” describes a timeless feeling that connects us in a whole new way because it talks about being separated from the one we love and the fear of never seeing them again. The single is accompanied by a music video directed by 36 Grados, that showcases the dynamic of a relationship during the quarantine, where our protagonists recreate the day-to-day that many of us are living and receive help from Cali y El Dandee and Sebastián Yatra through their music.
“Colegio” includes one of their most recent singles “Borracho De Amor” alongside Mexico’s most important pop band, Reik, landed on Billboard’s Top 10 Latin Pop Airplay List in the United States and Top 5 in Puerto Rico.Including their RIAA Gold Certified Singles in the United States and Puerto Rico, “Tequila Sunrise” featuring urbano sensation Rauw Alejandro and “Voy Por Ti” in collaboration with Piso 21.
The album also counts with songs like “Tu Nombre” with Colombian singer Mike Bahía and new tracks like the one that gives the album its name, “Colegio” in collaboration with the Colombian artist Lalo Ebratt, as well as “Besos Tristes” and “Solamente Tu.”
Pioneering the integration of reggaetón with romantic pop melodies, ‘Colegio’ is the reflection of the musical fusion that Cali y El Dandee initiated, becoming a trend in Latin music for new artists.
