Jackie Cruz Gets Real About The Fulfillment That Only Music Can Give Her [INTERVIEW]
Jackie Cruz first entered our lives when she appeared on the E! reality show, Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami in 2009. She officially became a part of our life, however, when she took the role of Marisol “Flaca” Gonzales on the Netflix series, Orange is the New Black.
For the most part, we’ve come to grow with and love her through her trajectory in the small screen, but if there’s something that her real fans know far too well it’s her passion for music.

In a gist, Jackie once formed part of a girl group, she dropped an EP as a solo artist, and she’s done some bombass covers of Selena Quintanilla. So basically, we know she could sing! But with 2018 being such a blessed year for Latinas in the music industry, it doesn’t stop there for Jackie.
The 31-year-old star is soon to give us a taste of her world with the release of her upcoming single: La Hora Loca. “The feeling that it gives you, it makes you want to dance,” Cruz told PulsoPOP about the song that’s bringing to the forefront her culture and roots. “In Dominican Republic, around midnight when the party is dying, they bring out ‘la hora loca’ and I wanted to use that reference in my single,” she said.
Cruz, who said she’s been a sucker for music since she was a little girl and would join her musician uncle on all his gigs in the DR, has grown a lot from the time she was in the girl group Krush Velvet.
“I was the rapper for the girl group and it was terrible because people were telling me what to do or who to be,” she fessed up. “I’ve grown so much because the moment I started to be myself that’s when things started happening to me.”

Although she loves (and she’s amazing) at both acting and singing, Cruz got real about the fulfillment that only music can give her and acting can not. “It’s therapy for me,” she told PulsoPOP. “In acting, I’m showing you someone else’s feelings but in music, I’m showing you my feelings and who I am.”
La Hora Loca drops May 25th but you can already pre-order it on iTunes.
