Coreon Du: Angolan singer croons in Spanish with ‘Que Paso?’

Growing up with his grandparents in Lisbon, Portugal inspired one Angolan-based singer to make music in Spanish. Meet Coreon Du, a multilingual singer, creative director and producer originally from Luanda, Angola.

Perhaps his name rings a bell, as the 30-year-old star has already made the rounds with his hits such as “Amor Robotico” and “Bailando Kizombo,” inspired by his native country’s traditional music.

He’s now promoting his captivating single “Que Paso?”

“It’s a fusion between Kizomba and cumbia, a combination of the two rhythms,” he told Pulso POP about his fresh track. “The lyrics talk about an unexpected love and at the same time have a sense of humor.”

Although he was born in Angola and raised in Portugal, Coreon Du loves to croon his fans in Spanish and has declared himself a Latin music lover.

“I still remember when Juan Luis Guerra became popular in my country,” he recalled. “I first fell in love with Latin music in my grandparent’s home, where they would listen to tango, cumbia and merengue.” But it wasn’t until he moved to the United States to live with his mother, that an 11-year-old Coreon Du began creating his relationship with the language and Latin music.

Coreon, who says he would love to one day collaborate with Juan Luis Guerra and Camila, describes his music as fusion, love and humor.

“Que Paso?” forms part of his latest album “Binario,” already available. “I named it ‘Binario’ because it’s primarily a mix of African and Latin music.”
